In Model 5 (BEACH MATRIX), construction scaffolding functions as a structural framework; the material operating as modular, transportable, self-contained, and exposed. The title, Beach Matrix, references a DIY nomadic structure designed by architect and designer Ken Isaacs. Steel crossbeam supports have been powder-coated a cream color, placing the construction outside of a strictly utilitarian intention of use. Sheets of MDF laminated in walnut veneer operate as both floors and shelving, referencing a dialogue between funturiture, taste, display, and function. Objects within the architecture of the sculpture direct a system of references and signifiers; a network of replicas, mimicry, and presentation.
