Architecture Year 2 - Design Principles and Methods
In second year DPM introduced us to digital methods of designing using coding and the use of Grasshopper to match forms found in nature. We were interested as a group in catenary curves or hanging chain structures. These can be found in the parabolic forms of the Daffodil flower and can be formed through using Grasshopper to hang chains from anchor points at the top of the structure. We experimented with adding more chains to create six separate chains which we then hung tensile meshes between. We then made a model within a cube to resemble the digital process that had created the form.
