Be Anyone - Pride month

Be anyone

This work was organized by HIMO-ILLO. It's a illustration about LGBT human rights.

As we know, June was chosen for LGBTQ Pride Month to commemorate the Stonewall riots, which occurred at the end of June 1969. As a result, many pride events are held during this month to recognize the impact LGBTQ people have had in the world. That's the reason why we decided to paint illustrations to convey the meaning of single rainbow color on its early concepts.

I use 6 colors to illustrate it, and use different characters to stand for Les/Gay/Bi/Trans(I use Marsha to stand for Trans). At last, I use Dorothy to hold all the people in her arms, which means all forms of existence are equal and worthy of love.

Just as Baker said, “The rainbow is so perfect because it really fits our diversity in terms of race, gender, ages, all of those things. Plus, it’s a natural flag — it’s from the sky.”

Dorothy(Judy Garland)
In gay slang, a "friend of Dorothy" (occasionally abbreviated FOD) is a gay man.  The phrase dates back to at least World War II, when homosexual acts were illegal in the United States. Stating that, or asking if, someone was a "friend of Dorothy" was a euphemism used for discussing sexual orientation without others knowing its meaning.

Marsha P. Johnson (TRANS)
Marsha P. Johnson (August 24, 1945 – July 6, 1992) was an American gay liberation activist and self-identified drag queen.
Known as an outspoken advocate for gay rights, Johnson was one of the prominent figures in the Stonewall uprising of 1969.

THE ASIAN TATTOO GUY(GAY)
I illustrate a asian guy with Japanese tattoo to stand for gay community. this community is not as effeminate as people's stereotypes. They could be strong, cool, muscular. In order to remain recognization to this character. I drew a little tattoo on his nape skin. “Jack love Ennis”—the main characters from the famous Gay movie “Brokeback mountain”
