TOUCH OF JAPAN - SOUNDWEAVING 8.0 - JAPAN EDITION

Soundweaving by Zsanett Szirmay is an interdisciplinary and interactive project based on the transformation of traditional textile patterns into sound by a punchcard music box. The transformation consists of turning patterns into laser-cut textile pieces, while textile motifs become melodies. Soundweaving involves multiple senses at once, and invites the observer to interaction. The textile patterns of Soundweaving's Japan Edition were inspired by katagami, katazome and kimono motifs. Among others, the patterns on the punchcard bring to life the traditional Japanese song "Sakura Sakura". The patterns were transposed into music, resulting in one-minute études, by composer/musician Dániel Vikukel and Zsanett Szirmay.
