This college project was my first ever engagement with the professional design process that is employed for producing a collection. The project required a student to select one iconic fashion item, study it in-depth and then decontextualize it on the lines of its USP. Understanding cultures, their impact on fashion and fashion's role in society were some key learnings. One essential area of focus was "cultural appropriation". While taking inspiration and decontextualizing, it was realized that we need to have knowledge about symbols of cultural importance so that we do not hurt the sentiments of a culture by blindly using certain motifs of significance.
