Sponsored studio project by Courage League Sports, a non-profit adaptive sports and recreational facility that offers year-round programming for children and adults who aren’t able to go full speed due to a physical, cognitive or emotional disability.
We were asked to design a piece of adaptive equipment to facilitate catch and throw games while giving users a sense of accomplishment.
Research Insights:
A lot of money is spent on replacing equipment or parts
Durability is huge
Catching and throwing needs to be a fluid motion.
Anything more than a two step process can be difficult.
Items need to be easy to clean.
Sanitation is crucial to members health.
Having a sense of accomplishment is very important.
Do not take away the throwing and catching action entirely
Storage
The thin build of this device enable it to be easily stacked, thus allowing multiple units to be stored in various fashions while maximizing storage space.
Scoop
Not only can this device be used to catch and throw but the blade on the end can be used to easily retrieve balls from the ground and transition into a throw with minimal movement and effort.
Washable/Replaceable
The material can be removed and put in a washing machine or wiped with disinfectant wipes. By undoing the snaps the fabric pieces can be easily replaced once worn out.
