HisBA Scholarships Support Hispanic Law School Students

Attorney Anastacio Mindiola practices from his own law firm in Houston, Texas. In this capacity, he represents clients involved in various civil suits, including mass torts and product liability. A graduate of South Texas College of Law Houston, Anastacio “Trae” Mindiola earned several scholarships to support his education, including the James DeAnda Scholarship from the Hispanic Bar Association of Houston (HisBA).

A nonprofit organization, HisBA has been promoting the advancement of Hispanics in the legal profession since 1988. The organization offers scholarships to students in the Houston area. These scholarships are awarded to law students who belong to the Hispanic Law Student Association (HLSA).

For first-year students, HisBA offers the 1L Scholarship Program. For students at one of three law schools in the Houston area, this scholarship is based on students’ financial need and leadership experience. In addition, applicants must demonstrate a commitment to extracurricular activities, success in their legal studies, and the advancement of Hispanics in the field.

Second-year law students are eligible for the James DeAnda Scholarship, which is jointly sponsored by HisBA and local law schools. This scholarship honors the former United States District Court Judge of the Southern District of Texas, James DeAnda, and is awarded to students who demonstrate leadership and academic excellence.

Finally, the 3L Scholarship Program supports third-year students who have a financial need and a history of leadership and commitment to HisBA’s mission. The 3L Scholarship is available only to students who cannot cover the cost of their bar review preparation course.
