First Use Animation (Proof of Concept)
A natural language understanding-based Conversational AI meant to augment the Caterpillarsales team. It is more similar to a Conversational Analytics platform than an bot interface. Asking questions brings back a insights related to the question or topic.
It can take a Caterpillar sales team member 48 hours to research and price the exact add-on attachments that will work with a customer's specific model and best suited to the materials involved (e.g. dirt, concrete, clay). Caterpillar needed to drastically decrease that time and be able to deliver immediate quotes while with a customer (in-person or remotely), or shortly thereafter via email.
Prior to my one-month engagement as part of the Config Agent team, engineering had already developed a prototype AI chatbot assistant that could be interacted with on an iPhone and was able to respond to a sub-set of user requests. Through our research, we decided an iPad-based solution that took the best qualities of the chatbot assistant, augmented with a new wizard-like workflow that would guide the sales team though the more intricate steps in the matching process and take advantage of the increased real estate available on the larger tablet. Allowing the user to ask question related to their job verbally and the system responding with the correct answer the first time and / or begin the appropriate workflow, and shortening the sales quote process for attachments from days to minutes.
