An Illustration book
This book is about death, melancholy and the myth of memory that hides between reality and fantasy.
A great inspiration for it was the life of Elisabeth Siddal, model of John Millais for his painting, Ophelia. The death of Ophelia is portrayed in a naturalistic way by this pre-Raphaelite painter. However what aroused my interest was the intrinsic connection between the meanings and symbologies of the work and the life of its model.
Elisabeth, would land in a bathtub full of water, mimicking Ophelia's suicide in the river. To warm the water Millais had lighted lamps. However, hours passed and the lamps under the bathtub extinguish and Siddal almost died of hypothermia and pneumonia.
