Spartacus, 1960
Physical typography created for Beneficial Shock magazine. In this piece on classic clarion calls I worked with @martypartyphoto to capture an image of 100 hand cut letters hiding one unique golden set of type in a typographic representation of the cry ‘I’m Spartacus’ from the 1960 film Spartacus. The letters had to be hand cut (as they represent a slave army) are made of Italian Pergamenata parchment paper (as close as you can get to the real deal of aged parchment) and are stacked on real Italian marble floor that we built in the studio to represent the Roman Empire. Fantastic fun putting it all together and seeing it come alive with a hairdryer!
