City dressing Campaign / Architectural Art Installation / Arnhem (NL) 2018
In 2018, the State of Fashion and FDAF were on the cultural program of the city of Arnhem. A collaboration between two fashion-related events in which recycling, sustainability and awareness in the clothing industry were exposed. Studio VZ was asked to develop a city dressing campaign for this. The sustainability topic is also an important issue for studio VZ. After first having done tests with clothing, studio VZ examined their own industry. Like textiles in the fashion industry, flags and banners are often destroyed after an event, and reuse is stopped by clients.
Within their projects, studio VZ has recycled materials several times, not only for engagement but also for the aesthetic effect.
2500 used campaign flags and banners have been collected in Arnhem and other Dutch cities. With this enormous mountain of fabric we developed the city dressing for the city of Arnhem. A part of the collected material was used to develop a collection of products that together form the city dressing to communicate these fashion events in the city of Arnhem.
Arnhem Central Station designed by UNStudio is an important city entrance for many visitors to the fashion events in the city of Arnhem. Visitors find their way to the rest of the city from the station. The collected flag fabric was reused to create a new colorful composition as a facade design for the building. For traveling visitors, this eyecatcher was an introduction to the substantive theme of the fashion events in the city.
