PLATYPI is the 15th incarnation of Illustrators Australia’s bi-annual resource book showcasing the 6th Australian and New Zealand Illustration Awards and the best of Australian and New Zealand contemporary illustration.

IA is a not-for-profit, volunteer-run community of professional and emerging illustrators from across Australia and New Zealand.

I wanted this publication to attract IA’s members... but most importantly IA's target audience. To pick it up, be WOW’ed by all the amazing illustration talent within and to use this resource book for upcoming advertising, design, packaging, publishing and editorial creative projects which require illustration.... Taking all this into consideration and budget of course. I pitched this design styled magazine and renamed it. PLATYPI seemed appropriate considering IA’s logo is a Platypus. I was delighted Perth based Illustrator and IA member Rebecca Mills took my wacky illustration brief: “Illustrators are like Platypi all swimming around in a big pond (IA) with each other, think about “community over competition approach”. Rebecca ran with it and delivered a mind-blowing cover. We’re all smiling and drooling over. And I hope you are too!

Beautiful work deserves beautiful paper and in partnering with Spicer’s - I created two sections within PLATYPI. The first section, prize winners of the 6th Australian and New Zealand Illustration Awards - is printed on Spicer's Pacesetter Gloss with a delicious gloss varnish to give the award winning illustrations that extra vibrancy and dazzling wow factor, which sing off the page, just like they deserve. The second section showcases IA’s member talent pool - printed on beautiful Pacesetter Laser Recycled, a high quality matt paper stock giving that prestigious contemporary look and feel, which show's off every detail of the illustrations.
