Latinx Hip Hop Contributions

"LHHC" is the culmination of a years long worth of research, development, and design for 2019s thesis class. "Latin Hip-Hop Contributions" is the acknowledgement of both past and present Latin artist whom have helped influence the genre of Hip-Hop. The project is made up of a poster campaign and an accompanied website in which there are short bios, contributions to the genre, and three top songs for each individual artist.
Hip-Hop is a genre of music that was predominantly created by African-American and Latinx communities in the early ’70s. It has undeniably become one of the most influential genres of music within the youth and popular culture. African-American and Latinx communities share many social, economic, and cultural experiences; however, the Latinx influence and credit have largely been inadvertently forgotten. I explored the topic of Latinx influence on the creation and development of Hip-Hop music and culture. I achieved this goal by creating a website highlighting Latinx influencers such as Big Pun, Fat Joe, and Daddy Yankee. The timeline spans from the 1970s to the present. The website is accompanied by a poster campaign, which serves as a way to captivate and inform the audience. The posters and website will inform Latinxs and Hip-Hop audiences alike, on the relevance and understated importance of Latinx hip-hop history and culture.
What initially began as a planned illustrated poster campaign turned into a designed whimsical and wacky alternative. Every artist had an initial sketch page drawn up in which there were two to three poster ideas, these ideas were meant to reflect specific past events in there lives, or to create satire based on there lives or stage personas.
