experiments with NATURAL DYES from the PLANTS

It is a wonderful feeling to create together with nature by making the dyes from the plants.

Early spring is time to gather nettles. Here are some photos from the process of extracting dye from nettles and testing the colour.
Plants with a strong scent such as marigold flowers indicates the presence of aromatic oils and acids. It suggests that the plant has dye potential.
Bright shades of marigold flowers gives clear yellow colour.
You have to gather woad leaves late in the autumn if you want to get some realy blue shades of colour. The colour varies from light green to intense blue. It depends on various conditions: area, ground, weather and so on.
Dried avocado skins and stones produce long lasting colours ranging from peach to dark pink.
I love it very much!
