APT Magazine EDITORIAL DESIGN
CHALLENGE
Design a 16-page culture magazine which will compete with publications such as Wallpaper and Face. The intended target audience is the aspirational and sophistical 20-40 year old, possible an inhabitant of the West End of Glasgow who likes wine bars and food markets.
SOLUTION
The recurring long rectangular bars throughout the design is relevant to the readership, in that they may see this shape quite a lot in their daily lives — stock market charts, roof-to-floor windows and wall columns in their office and skyscrapers around the city. Although the magazine only consisted of twenty pages, the binding format chosen was perfect binding – this was considered to give a more upmarket feel than saddle–stitching.
