Beginning in 2008, I have been illustrating what I call "Play Icons" for The Barnstormers Theatre in Tamworth, NH. This project is quite different from creating a theatre poster. These images are used at a small size, so they need to be simple.
The Barnstormers season is 8 shows in 8 weeks during July and August. I use these illustrations to create a season brochure, on the website, and on a poster that lists all the plays. Over the years I have experimented with various approaches to this task. In 2008 I used a standardized look for all the shows. I used a combination of scanned ink drawings with color and tweaking done in Photoshop.
