This project started with a visit to Belle Isle, a river opening and recreational area located on the James River in Richmond Virginia. Weathered and rusted pavilion buildings on the rivers edge inspired the conception of an event indicative of the space and open location. After a walk through the interior of the pavilions I was reminded of the grit of a New York city street street corner and was moved by the size of the sky in the surrounding area. The event is a proposed hot air balloon launch to take place at this location with host Jean-Michel Basquiat and mythical god of flight Icarus. Event collateral includes a poster, postcard, and collapsible pair of paper binoculars.
