It was on an ordinary day back in April of 2000 that I was working in my studio and received a call out of the blue from a friend.  She was traveling to Italy and had heard I was interested in photographing the beautiful country.

Before I knew it, I was standing amongst some of the most famous and ancient creations in the world.  Some of the paths I strolled were as old as 273 BC! Although I found it difficult to fathom how these places still existed, I instantly admired their strength and that which it took to build them. I was quickly transported to a time when priests climbed the ancient Vatican steps of St. Peter’s Basilica and Roman soldiers fought among what now stood around me as battle-scarred ruins.  The rich history of this land captivated me and renewed my appreciation for the Italian lifestyle and architectural details, textures and layers that are present in so many of my images.

The images of Italy that I captured on film, encompass a myriad of locations, many constructed hundreds of years ago.  By photographing these crumbling stone facades and archaic landscapes, I hope to transport my audience to the past and allow them to mentally experience walking on the roads where a vast ancient empire once stood.
