人行横道安全设施主要运用在城市主要交通干道、交通事故多发区、儿童保护区域的人行横道。设计初衷是增强公民使用人行横道的便利性和安全性，预防人行横道上的交通事故，确保使用人行横道的弱势群体（残疾人、老人、孕妇、儿童）有一个安全等待的区域。设置人行横道安全设施，使行人通过认知人行横道而增强安全感。使用太阳能照明装置能使驾驶员远距离认知人行横道，提高警戒心，降低夜间行人横穿人行横道的危险性。
