Brand Identity - Restaurant De Nieuwe WInkel

Capture

Brand identity

Restaurant De Nieuwe Winkel stands for botanical gastronomy. Here you will find on your plate what Chef Emile takes from nearby food forests and walled gardens. Taste the region. Taste the season.

After months of renovating, the new restaurant is almost ready for opening: an old orphanage in the center of Nijmegen.

We experiment. We create, examine, and have fun. We discover and fail. We cook primarily with plants. We believe in botanical gastronomy. You eat what we find close-by. In food forests. In kitchen gardens and natural yards. Allow yourself to be surprised. Taste the region.

Visual identity

The task we set ourselves was to merge both the green character of Restaurant De Nieuwe Winkel and its quirky character into a new corporate identity.

The handmade prints of the leaves in which the veins of the leaf can be beautifully seen symbolize botanical gastronomy. The fierce and pronounced color scheme for the quirkiness of the restaurant. The contrast between the two could hardly be greater.
Restaurant De Nieuwe Winkel has been using the same font for years which has now become visually quite distinctive for the restaurant. Therefore, the font is also an element we have retained.

Leafs

The penchant for botanical gastronomy was not yet evident in the existing corporate identity.

This was solved by producing handmade prints and silkscreens of leaves as supporting imagery. These leaves chef Emile utilizes daily in his kitchen and we picked them especially for this project from the food forest.
The leaves are an entirely new addition to the corporate identity and provide a better balance between the predominantly angular, mathematical typography and the organic kitchen.

At “De Nieuwe Winkel” flavor comes first. But we also cook to help make the world a better place. We believe in honest food, preferably from our own backyard. That’s why we cook with plants: botanical gastronomy. We pick plants. Smell them. Taste them. Analyze them. Ferment them. Cook them. Till there’s something on your plate that will truly astound and overwhelm you.
Sourcing our ingredients from a wholesale store would be too easy. Instead, we’d rather pick them ourselves. So we know exactly where they come from. So you, as our guest, can taste the area and the season. This is why we rummage through Food Forest “Ketelbroek”, in the local town of Groesbeek. Or you may find us in the “Ommuurde Tuin” (Walled Garden) in Renkum, which was once King William III’s vegetable garden.

Print

Simple but effective.

Telling a clear story without fuss was the goal in developing the printed matter. The power of colors, leaf, logo and typography on beautiful paper. But a menu is not just a menu, because each menu also features a plant chart. That way you know exactly what you are getting on your plate, although you will have to google some of the plants.

De Nieuwe Winkel is een verborgen juweel in de binnenstad van Nijmegen. Het restaurant is de oudste kern van een voormalig weeshuis. De prachtige entree stamt uit de veertiende eeuw.

Website

The story of De Nieuwe Winkel revolves around botanical gastronomy. On the website, we take you through this story and why it is so important to De Nieuwe Winkel.

A website where function and form are balanced and the focus is on the story. In other words, the content itself. With room for images that speak for themselves. At the same time, the website has a clear conversion goal, namely, coordinating reservations. For this we use a fixed reservation module that is present on all pages, but never gets in the way of the content.
