Santia-GO CONCEPT SHOTS

SANTIA-GO CONCEPT SHOTS
Preposition: This is a passion project and is not intended to be monetized in any way. All of the information is based on experienced problems when attemtpting the "Camino", if nothing else is stated.

Santia-GO is a companion app for travelers that want to walk the long journey of the Camino de Santiago in Spain. This app aims to help you to plan, purchase gear, find travel mates, plot trip, find sights and attractions along the Camino. And of course help you smell the flowers along the way. These are just SOME of the shots from the concept build so take it with a grain of salt and judge it accordingly until the Beta (or better yet; the full release) is published.

The problems

1. New hikers do not know where to start. Where to look for gear without getting sold the wrong equipment. Where to gain more insight and information about the hike. Where to find possible companions throguh the hike.

2. Insecure feelings and questions that go unasked and unanswered. There are some places to ask questions about the Camino but these are well spread out and often differ in usage and level of seniority of people. And the is a certain anonymity online, which adds to the feeling of uncertatiy if you choose to hike and do the trip with someone from the internet.

3. When hiking there is not a lot of support which can add to the feeling of not being safe on the road. Navigation, tagging, communication and help trough out the hike is something that was greatly requested.
These are the problems that were stated most and were expereicned of having the greatest value of criticality during research.

Research and analysis

Many travelers yearn to travel by foot on the different trails of the world, but for many the joueny stops before it even begun. these problems has been discovered thorugh semi structured interviews with both junior and senior hikers.

Semi-strutured interviews were conducted with 21 hikers by varying seniority and 9 people that want to get into hiking but experience some form of hinderance. These were (or were concerning):

- Uncertainty with gear
- Uncertainty with navigation
- Uncertainty with community and companionship
- Uncertainty safety and unease
- Uncertainty with their own ability
- Uncertainty with lodging and survival

The greatest issue was that many junior hikers never even begun. It always ended in a thought like "yeah, a trip like the Camino would be cool" but the persons would rarely go further with the idea. This was discovered to be mainly because of the problems stated above. So how do we solve these problems?

The solution

An app, why? most hikers bring their phone with for safety and an app is a great facilitator for the solution for all of these problems. The app name Santia-go aims to guide you to the right gear, the right way, to your new friends and so on. It is easy to operate - a large portion of the user group are technological beginners, or somewhat recentful to new technology that's why we aim to make it intuitive and easy to use for everybody.
The information in the app is mostly based on cooperative and contributal design, meaning that the community in the app stands for the large portion of the recommendations and help given.
The app has (this far) gotten praise and acceptance in the hiker community, but there is still issues and features that needs to be worked and interated on.
