In this project I am trying to express how an individual might feel when they are suffering from depression. Everybody suffers from this kind of feeling at some point in their life, it may be extreme for some and just a mood swing for others. I have little knowledge in this field, so I tried to do some research before diving into this project, reading personal stories on the internet, going through hours of lectures on human behavior on YouTube.
At the end I wouldn't say that everybody will be able to find themselves in these images or relate their feelings to them but this is how I personally comprehend it.
The repeating pattern on the body is meant to be the self-harm some individuals afflict on themselves, the extrusion from the body is symbolizing the scars they may leave creating a permanent mark on an individual's identity.
The flowers symbolize the blood from the body due to the self-harm, which in some cases could be because of pressure or punishment on one-self due to not meeting society's or one-self's expectations.
The strings signify the raving thoughts that come to one's mind, torturing and enveloping the being to cast themselves away from help, their work, and ultimately their lives in some cases.
The hole in the chest and the liquid signifies the feeling of having a heavy void in one's chest that is slowly pouring out life from one's heart. A lot of people suffering from depression have this feeling, which could be result in having problem in breathing and panic attacks.
