MVSCVOLO (mixed-media experiment)

MVSCVLO
(An Experiment in Mixed Media, 1996) I did this decades ago! Inspired by Vesalius' anatomical etchings and of all people, Marcel Duchamp! (makes no sense) The title 'MVSCVLO' came from an actual Renaissance Vesalius etching page/plate.
I PVA glued tissue paper onto paper as a veinous looking ground, and then worked over it with acrylic paint—I think—and pastels. I also printed out serif text and stuck it on. I've always liked many of Peter Greenaway's films too, so there's probably a touch of that in there. Yes, definitely. It's a pity that lower back leg is a bit 'off' looking.
I didn't intend for this to be a 'horror' piece when i made it way back then, but then again, Greenaway probably didn't intend 'The Cook the Thief, his Wife and her Lover' to be a horror film either. Let's face it: this is a live, flayed man! Or appears to be.

MVSCVOLO (mixed-media experiment)

An OLD mixed-media piece of an anatomical nature, with an unintended horror element, Greenaway and Vesalius and even Duchamp (!) inspired.
