Visual
is a collection of designs, explorations, and visuals I have created over the past few years on my creative journey. I’ve reworked this original portfolio to add brief descriptions of the projects and a bit of my thought process behind each one. The pieces below were essential in helping me develop my creative style. Enjoy!

Crowded

Time: 1 week
Tools: Adobe Illustrator
Context: Class assignment

This piece uses typography to recreate the feeling of being in a crowded room. The letters are in a frame too small for their word. Each letter belongs to a different typeface to enhance the awkwardness of the composition; they even step on each other's toes in the colourful instances of overlap.

Enter The Void

Time: 2 days
Tools: Adobe Illustrator
Context: Open challenge

Part of my venture into Adobe's “36 Days of Type“ competition, “Enter The Void” is based on the visual themes of the Matrix. The repeating zeros are a nod to binary code and its influence on the movie. Through the process of creating the original letterform in illustrator, I expanded on the theme by including the motifs of the red pill and blue pill. The final product is a triptych illustrating a metaphorical journey.

Ruhlaxx

Time: 1 week
Tools: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Aftereffects
Context: Personal project

This was my first experiment with aftereffects in efforts to bring to life an idea I had after watching an episode of Teen Titans Go "Legs". In the aesthetic of the show I used a funky colour scheme and layered the text on a vibrant background. “RuhLaxx” is a reference to an inside joke those who know me know it’s a go-to phase of mine. The spelling of the word “relax” was changed to make it feel more like a phase a person was saying. I also animated it at a speed that mimicked my cadences. This a fun motion graphic inspired me to experiment more.

Clout Culture

Time: 1 week + revisions
Tools: Adobe Illustrator
Context: Personal project

"Clout Culture" is based on society’s constant obsession with social status otherwise known as clout. I wanted to play with the idea of the gamification of social media. Combining the visual language of trophy systems in video games and app notifications I made a symbol that would (hopefully) resonate with both gamers and social media users. The goal was for this to be a commentary on clout culture, how it’s all just a game.

Star Catcher

Time: 2 weeks
Tools: Adobe Photoshop, Camera
Context: Class assignment

I created Star Catcher by collaging together a photo of lipstick, a lampshade and Christmas lights. I was inspired by the creative branding they had in Sephora. This project was the hardest for me because it forced me to develop my photoshop skills. Overall I'm happy with the final product and feel all the visual elements fit together naturally.
