According to Greek Mythology, Gaia, from ancient Greek “Γαία”, is the initial deity of Earth and personifcation of life. Using exclusively paper and charcoal, I created the image of a giant woman sleeping. A mythological and modern figure, she sleeps in the city center between concrete buildings but no one bothers her. Consisted of drawing patterns inspired by the forms we see in nature and arranged into a conceptually layered paper installation, she creates artifcial roots that entwines them in everything around her, to become part of it, to become part of us. She closes her eyes to open ours.
The Art Historian Miguel Fernandez Belmonte, writes about the artwork :
"In the dream ,in the thought, in the fog it is difficult to distinguish the ground and our next steps. Everything is white, but faint lines and shapes emerge. They lie into the void, rise up and form a giant form, that breaks down into smaller pieces. On the floor, on the tables, hanged from the walls, the pieces multiply, become even smaller and the total surface expand. They become roots, leaves, waves, branches, a whole forest where the continuous divisions follow their own natural rhythm. Like cells,after their proliferation, they suddenly become conscious and become part of a larger organism. The pieces are united and the figure is gradually regrouped. In the city far from strange eyes, the figure grows, but retains its original fragility and delicacy.

Σύμφωνα με την ελληνική μυθολογία, η “Γαία” αποτελεί την αρχική θεότητα της Γης και προσωποποίηση της ζωής. Χρησιμοποιώντας αποκλειστικά χαρτί και κάρβουνο, της έδωσα τη μορφή μιας γιγαντιαίας κοιμώμενης γυναίκας. Μυθολογική μέν, σύγχρονη δέ-
κοιμάται ανενόχλητη ριζώνοντας σε ότι την περιβάλλει, για να γίνει ένα με αυτό. Να γίνει ένα με μας.

Ο Ιστορικό Τέχνης Miguel Fernández Belmonte γράφει για το έργο:
"Μέσα στο όνειρο, μέσα στη σκέψη.
Στην ομίχλη με δυσκολία διακρίνονται το έδαφος και τα επόμενα μας βήματα. Όλα είναι λευκά, αλλά αχνές γραμμές και σχήματα προκύπτουν. Αιωρούνται στο κενό, υψώνονται και σχηματίζουν μια γιγαντιαία μορφή. Αυτή διασπάται σε μικρότερα κομμάτια.
Στο πάτωμα, πάνω σε τραπέζια, κρεμασμένα από τους τοίχους, τα κομμάτια πολλαπλασιάζονται, γίνονται ακόμα μικρότερα και οι συνολικές επιφάνειες επεκτείνονται. Γίνονται ρίζες, φύλλα, κύματα, κλαδιά, ένα ολόκληρο δάσος όπου οι συνεχείς διαιρέσεις ακολουθούν τον δικό τους φυσικό ρυθμό. Σαν κύτταρα που μετά από τον πολλαπλασιασμό τους ξαφνικά αποκτούν συνείδηση και γίνονται μέρος ενός μεγαλύτερου οργανισμού, τα κομμάτια ενώνονται και η φιγούρα σταδιακά ανασυγκροτείται.
Στην πόλη, μακριά από τα ξένα μάτια, η φιγούρα μεγαλώνει, αλλά διατηρεί την αρχική της ευθραυστότητα και λεπτότητα.
Κλείνει τα μάτια της για να ανοίξουμε εμείς τα δικά μας.
Το πρωί δεν υπάρχει πλέον στο ατελιέ. Η σκέψη, το όνειρο πέρασαν. Έμεινε μόνο το αποτύπωμα. Σαν υπενθύμιση ότι ήταν αληθινή, άφησε λίγα αντικείμενα στα χέρια της δημιουργού της: ένα μικρό πινέλο, ένα κάρβουνο και ένα κομμάτι από σβήστρα."
