Berwyn Public Library - Handmade Projects

The four displays were on the first floor. The first is still up, as I wanted to salute our Friends of the Library group. I used paper left over from other projects and extra scrapbooking paper I hung on to during our last craft supply/puzzle exchange.
Our director asked me to paint these discarded CDs and hang them to prevent birds from flying into the glass. I used spray paint on 62 CDs.
I created a few stencils for reuse on these CDs, then I used a very light coat of Vaseline to keep the stencil on the disc so the spray paint would not blow it off the CD. I blended colors of spray-paint.
I hand painted these foam pumpkins for my library to display in the AV department for Halloween. I used acrylic paint, Sharpie marker, wire, cardboard and ribbon. From the left these characters are: Jigsaw from the 'Saw' films, Carmen from the animated film 'The Book of Life', and Mike from 'Monsters, Inc.' These pumpkins (and the next one below) were on display at Berwyn Public Library for several years, and Forest Park Public Library October 2020.
I painted this white foam pumpkin with a special, gritty, black craft paint that only partially covers a surface. The mask and mini-fan are made of scrapbook paper, the "rose" is old Christmas ribbon, the beaded strands I found in my crafting supplies. The only materials I didn't have on hand were the pumpkin and black paint.
The piano was my department heads idea which she had seen in another library. This is actually the end cap of a bookshelf in our AV department, this section holds music CD's. It is roughly seven feet high, maybe four feet wide. The music notes are actually CD covers that we would of discarded.
This banner was made for a co-worker who left us. The words, vines and fairies are clip art put together in Adobe Photoshop and I added Adobe Illustrator symbols. The flowers were made with old brown packaging paper I kept from deliveries. I spray painted them and secured them with brass brad clips.
4th of July 2019. The stars are old CD packaging that we do not use. I decided to use photo paper for the stripes because it is lightweight, and easier to hang. The blue part of the flag is junk cardboard that comes in new frames that I held onto. The small, white stars are the cut-outs of the larger stars seen on the front of the counter.
This Christmas tree formed with cut CD covers was my idea and was up behind the Audio Visual public desk at Berwyn Public Library. My co-workers helped me cut several CD jackets that would of been discarded. The shapes I chose are stars, music notes and treble clefs.
