Missions to Mars Data Visualization
Missions to Mars Data Visualization
I designed this data vis to showcase every mission to Mars. The poster is divided into three sections, one for Russia, the United States, and other countries. The size of each circle is relative to how many attempts each had. From here, I divided the circles into 60 sections, each representing a year, starting clockwise with 1960 at 12:00. I then expanded the sections to show which years had active launches.
To distinguish the mission and to show the outcome, I designed icons for each outcome and mission type. Icons with no fill were failures, half fill symbolizes a partial success, and a filled icon depicts mission success.
Lastly, I listed every mission and its outcome on the bottom for those interested in further details. All information is sourced from NASA's database, and can be found at https://mars.nasa.gov/programmissions/missions/log/
