The intended purpose of the sculpture created is to raise awareness on depression. People who suffer from major depressive disorder tend to put up a “facade” which can’t be seen easily as they conceal their emotions well. With that, I wanted to display how minor things in life like emotions can be easily overlooked upon as we are all blinded by “a veil”. What we don’t see underneath the veil are the whips and suffering people with depression have been through. The chains and heart made out of wire emphasises how much someone with depression can feel tied down and locked in life. Nonetheless, despite suffering from depression, they have a beautiful and warm glow that represents their soul and how much it brightens the life of others.
