Based in New York, the Society of News & Desing(SND) has offices around the world and its members are from nonprofit organizations and journalists from around the world. One of branches, SNDE(Society of News & Design Español) in Spain, holds a competition of Malofiej Summit every year. The SNDE office is located at Navarro University and one of the professors, Miguel Urabayan, met Alejandro Malopiej through a map he met during his travels to Argentina and archived Malopiej’s works at Navarro University.

In 1993, he made the Malopiej Infographic Award to honor his achievements. This prize boasts a rigorous screening and authority to be recognized as the Pulitzer of Infographic.

In the 27th Malofiej Summit of this year, 1,050 works from 31 countries were exhibited and 140 of them won gold, silver and bronze medals. (see table)

Since SND is a news-related field, countries in the alphabet such as English and Spain are showing strong performance. China and South Korea are the only countries in Northeast Asia.

203인포그래픽연구소는 홍대앞 동네잡지 <스트리트 H>에 매월 1건씩 인포그래픽 포스터를 제작, 게재했고 그중 하나인 <자가출판>이 Features 부분 동상을 획득했다. 세계의 유명 언론사들이 겨루는 장에서 국내의 대형, 유료, 유력 미디어도 아니고 무료로 발간되는 홍대앞 동네잡지 <스트리트 H(2009년 창간)>에서 얻어낸 결과이기에 더욱 소중하다.

뉴욕에 기반을 둔 SND(Society for News & Design)는 세계 곳곳에 지부를 두고 있으며, 비영리단체 및 세계 각국의 언론인들이 회원으로 활동하고 있다. 지부 중 한 곳인 SNDE(Society of News & Design Español)는 매년 스페인의 팜플로나에서 말로피에 서밋과 어워드를 개최하고 있다. SNDE 사무소는 나바로대학교의 미구엘 우라바옌(1926-2018) 교수가 아르헨티나 여행중 현지 일간지에 게재된 지도를 통해 알레한드로 말로피에(1938-1987)를 알게 되었고, 그의 작업물들을 나바로대학교에 아카이빙하는 데까지 이르렀다.
1993년 국제 뉴스 인포그래픽 어워드를 만들며 말로피에의 업적을 기리기 위해 어워드에 그의 이름을 붙였다. 이 상은 뉴스 인포그래픽계의 ‘퓰리처상’으로 여기질 정도로 엄정한 심사와 권위를 자랑한다.

27회째를 맞는 2019년에는 31개국에서 1,050건의 작품이 출품 되었고, 그중 140개 작품이 금, 은, 동 메달을 각각 차지했다.(표 참고) 응모자격은 인쇄, 온라인상의 신문, 잡지, 통신사, 개인매체 등에 게재된 작품이어야 한다.
SNDE는 아무래도 뉴스와 관련된 분야이기에 영어, 스페인 등 알파벳권 국가의 뉴스매체가 강세를 보이고 있다. 동북아시아에서는 중국과 한국이 유일하다. 중국이라고 해도 홍콩의 사우스 차이나 모닝 포스트(SCMP)는 타블로이드 영자판이고, 인포그래픽팀도 스페인 등 알파벳권 출신들이 대부분이다. 현재 이 팀은 뉴스 인포그래픽계에서 아주 막강한 팀파워를 보여주고 있다.

Current 203 X Design Studio CEO | He worked as an editorial designer in <Reader's Digest>, Yonhap News Graphic News Team, <Weekly Donga>, <Science Donga> and established the 203 X Design Studio in 2003 in front of Hongik University. Since then, he has been publishing a neighborhood magazine <STREET H>, which records in front of Hongik University in 2009, He founded the Infographic Lab in 2012 and hosted the Infographic Group exhibition at YOON DesignLab Gallery.
