Making my own decisions often felt like I was standing at the edge of a tall valley that overlooked a dark, unknown abyss. While I lived my life thinking that my circumstances were limited, art enabled me to take risks through experimentation and independent exploration. I learned how to do most art mediums independently. Through these times, I discovered that there was nothing more liberating than the idea I had nothing to lose. I continued to persevere in my artistic endeavors to eliminate regret from a failure to acknowledge untested assumptions and induce new ways of interpretation.
Through these processes, I wanted to modernize Chinese painting techniques and explore paper construction—to best represent my thoughts on liberation from the constant limitations I felt both from myself and the environment around me.
