Master project is a extension of an art museum, Kunsthalle Bielefeld, located in the north-eastern part of Germany. The building was designed by an american architect, Philip Johnson. The project is the answer to a need to extend the museum and to create a new space for exhibition areas, adapted primarily to display contemporary pieces of art. The thesis depicts an exploration of solutions and links to the existing building. It had to do with the in-depth analysis and the understanding of the actual structure.
The interference in the Kunsthalle building as well as the creation of a new architecture was the main challenge here. Both the idea and the form of this new museum part is based on the Philip Johnson’s project, creating analogical references from the space composition to the construction grid. The extension envisions the creation of two spaces, the internal and external, both of a different nature.
