Had a lot of fun working as a concept artist for Calabash Animation for these Paypal spots. My main role was helping them achieve a graphic style for the characters and backgrounds and to come up with ideas for how each spot could work. I've also managed to help with some 3D modelling

MOODBOARD:

As per usual, my first task was to present the client with a moodboard containing graphic references that were fitting for the project and could help us establish which direction to go for. This moodboard contains some of the references they first sent me, as well as some of the references I've managed to collect by my own to present them just to make sure we were on the same page.

VISUAL DEVELOPMENT:

"Bobs" and "Pigeons" were the first two spots I've started to work on. They served as a guideline for all the rest. We were trying to focus on a style between realism and abstraction and started sketching some ideas. We had to come up with designs that were simple, fun, and could be easily replicated, since for "Bobs", specifically we would have to have hundreds of different characters.

VISUAL DEVELOPMENT:

What followed were a few more complex spots that we've called "Fabrics", "Jeans", "Zombies" and "Vietnam". With the main character designs approved, we were looking for interesting variations we could fit on these other spots as well as some cool environments to fit them in and make the animations more interesting and dynamic. Here are a few iterations of the concepts from start to final approved versions.
