Housewife

The “Housewife” series symbolically tackles gender identities, notably that of women in our societies. According to some stereotypes, women should stay at home, take care of the laundry or hold their tongues. This definition of women consequently appears as a fixed identity, and it is surprisingly defended by our most renowned philosophers. That is why each picture is associated with a quote from a historically famous philosopher. The pictures do not only show the absurdity or even violence of some philosophical declarations: they also depict what it feels like to have one’s identity limited by an established and pseudo-rational stereotype.

This project is published in the book “Clichés de Femmes”, Atlande editions.
(The quotes do not directly appear on the prints).
