Shadow box : Against the flow
Introduction
This is one of my artworks for Art culture assignment. In this project we had to create a mixed-media box construction. Using a wide range of materials to create a three-dimensional assemblage that illustrates either:
(a) an important event/period/theme in your life
or
(b) describes your aspirations/dreams for the future.
As an artist, facing a different culture is a new thing for me, and it has made me feel lonely sometimes. I decided to immigrate here, and I came with hope of becoming better, so I wanted to show positivity in darkness. It means, even when there is darkness in our life, that is the reason to build our personality. The theme that I choose is immigration and the subject is Against the slow.
Materials
- Wire (16 gage)
- Glass beads
- Clay
- Canson paper
- Tools(flat and round nose plier and cuter)
- Poster colour
- Glue
- Polymer clay
Creative Process
I made a bird with clay. Working with clay has a long process and takes a lot of time. It needs patience because there are accidents during the process which may make you frustrated.
Work flow
Firstly, to make the bird I used the biscuit process. After the biscuit process, I did the glazing.
Secondly, I made my wire tree with wire and glass beads. I used tools like pliers to make organic shapes and form. I used polymer clay for my tree base. I made the tree using 18 gage wire and formed it with a plier.
After I made the wire tree, I drew a tree in canson paper with poster colour specially with white and gold colour.
Finally, I got a box and transferred the tree painting in the background, placed the wire tree and the ceramic birds.

Conclusion
In conclusion, I chose this assignment so that I can present it in an exhibition. It is also part of me, my experience, my life and the prosses of moving to new place. Birds are a perfect example of animals that immigrate according to the seasons. It is beautiful that Canada is a multicultural country, and everyone here are living in harmony. I want to give a message about equality because in the end we are all just humans.
