Hayley Kiyoko Poster

Being a queer individual, I chose to create a Hayley Kiyoko poster for a school assignment because of her impact on the queer community for being outwardly outspoken and loving to the point that many refer to her as “Lesbian Jesus.” Encouraging others to love themselves and be who they were born to be.

I wanted to portray her confidence and flirty persona, and how we too, do not have to be afraid. She is sitting atop a mountain of bras to indicate the amount of bras that were thrown towards her during her Expectations concert tour, and her growing status as a pop singer. At the bottom of the poster are her sapphic fans loving each other and accepting themselves, aided by Hayley’s influence.

I first did a pencil drawing and implanted the core idea of being brave and loving towards yourself and others into the poster. I then coloured the illustration digitally before putting several layers of watercolour textures onto the poster to give it more appeal. After that I added some halftones to the piece, which brings back the idea of pop culture. Added some more flat colours, digitally tweaked the piece, and voila! A finished very sapphic poster!
