VIDES:Designer Magazine Project

The goal for this project was to create a magazine about art and design. It had to be a minimum of 24 pages while also including certain elements assigned by my instructor. I decided to do a singular artist rather than multiple or an art movement. It was to be completed in Indesign and printed from Blurb.

While researching, I knew I wanted to feature a contemporary artist. Joshua vides caught my eye not only because of his striking work, but also the variety of work he created while maintaining his personal style. I found many articles about him and his exhibits.  His work ranges from fashion, domestic, industrial, machinery, and the list goes on.

Once I had finished research and decided which information I would include, I began sketching spread layouts. I then computer rendered these designs in InDesign. After some trial and error I was able to include the information and imagery into cohesive designs throughout. I kept my style minimal with mostly black and white with a hint of blue. I wanted the design throughout to mimic his work which is mostly white objects that have been outlines with a thick black stroke. The geometric shapes I used throughout help to reinforce this crisp look.

This project helped me learn how to keep a consistent theme throughout a multipage document while also having a variety of layouts. I also furthered my working knowledge in Indesign by navigating through the problems I faced completing this project. Overall I am happy with the outcome and how much I learned.
