A nice summer hike can be a fun way to get out and enjoy the sunshine and nature. Unfortunately, for those who live in warmer climates or hike unprepared, a summer hike can prove dangerous, even deadly. One way to help mitigate the risks and enjoy a summer hike is to avoid hiking at the hottest time of day.

The hottest time of day is typically later in the day, between noon and 3 p.m. Keep in mind that the specific hours may vary depending on your location, with the hottest time starting earlier or ending later. While you could hike later in the day after the hottest hours have passed, it will likely still be hotter than the morning and you may end up with fewer daylight hours in which to hike.

Instead, consider starting your hike early in the day, such as during or just after sunrise. If you start later, you may face an increased risk of dehydration or heat-related injury.
