Be Where Your Customers Are


In this overpopulated world that is photography today, it is very hard to stand out amongst the crowd. That's not to say that this isn't achievable, I'm just saying that in today's market, it is extremely difficult given the amount of noise being generated. 

One way to give yourself a chance is to be where your market is. 

Whilst the current trend is for photographers to be predominantly on Instagram, ask yourself this question: 

by throwing all my efforts into Instagram, who am I actually looking to target, and are my practices working? 

For me, I've already said that I'm looking to build my corporate headshot portfolio throughout 2019, so whilst I will and do still post to Instagram, you can check out my profiles @GaryFernon and @photoreceptor_cell.  It makes more sense for me to spend more time and energy posting to LinkedIn, because as we all know, LinkedIn has become the business equivalent to Facebook. If you search me out on LinkedIn, you'll find my profile as my name, Gary Fernon, where I share a mixture of posts I create for my personal brand, as well as for my business brand. What I've also recently done is create a LinkedIn company page where clients old and new, and prospects can follow my work to see whether I'm the right fit for their business and their photographic needs.

What are you trying to achieve?
Are you targeting the right platform?
