The structure of the existing garage boxes on the Morsweg in Leiden forms the basis for the architecture of the superstructure, which stands on top of the (reinforced) substructure with a light, removable steel construction. Within the grid of this steel structure, 3 maisonettes are positioned in a tetris-like circuit.
The entrances to the houses are accessible via a gallery on the north side, also on the street side. The houses on the south side border with transparent sliding doors and French balconies on the tree-lined back garden.
The transparent structure can be seen, rather than a volume, as a superposition of different planes. The glass facades ensure, with the reflections of light and environment, a constantly changing image. This transparent, minimalist approach gives the structure a light, temporary and contemporary character, which contrasts strongly with the architecture of the existing garages.
