Changes in Medigap

Seasoned financial advisor and estate planner Brad Liebe is the president of KK&B Financial Services for Seniors. KK&B Financial Services for Seniors, which Brad Liebe also owns, offers a wide range of products including Medicare supplemental insurance.

Within a few months, the landscape of Medicare supplemental policies in the US will start to change. By year end, the government will cut off access to Plan F, which is also known as Medigap. Referred to as the Cadillac plan when it comes to Medicare supplemental policies, Plan F has been preferred by people who want to avoid unexpected (uncovered) medical costs. It also pays some services not covered by Medicare.

Although Plan F is quite expensive, customers have been willing to pay extra because Plan F allows them to go to any doctor or hospital that accepts Medicare patients. But the most appealing feature of Plan F is the absence of any uncovered medical bills after treatment. Current Plan F holders may opt to stick with Plan F until the program is closed at the end of 2019.

Now that the government is closing the doors for Plan F, insurance experts are expecting that Plan G will be the new draw.
