Sottobosco is a small artisanal cheese producer founded by 2 brothers who spent time in Italy working on a family friends farm, truffle hunting and working in the dairy. Here they discovered the Blanco Sottobosco cheese, which inspired them to return to South Africa to start their own cheese production company. Sottobosco focuses on making their premium, high-quality cheese accessible to a wider South African market while rejecting the cheese industry's notion of exclusivity.
The branding encapsulated this ethos of accessibility and unpretentiousness by using an informal tone and a sense of playfulness. Curvilinear forms and rustic textures allude to the handmade nature of the products, while iconography of a crown and the royal purple hue applied to high-quality design maintains the premium quality of the brand.
