VinylResin – Farewell/Reunion

It's always fun to make time for passion projects and this was one I couldn't refuse as it brings back a lot of fond memories. I designed all of the bands album covers back in the day, which made revisiting the old designs for a one-off gig poster a lot of fun.

VinylResin are a 3-piece punk/indie/grunge act who played their last gig 15 years ago, just as things were starting to look up for the trio. Sadly it wasn't meant to be back then but Matt, Ben and Murdy are back to give a one night only performance “to the audiences who adored them so much, and those who didn’t.”

The poster had to reflect the dual purpose of the gig as well as draw on previous visual cues that hardcore fans would remember. An ambigram design overlaid onto the old album backdrop gives a perfect mix of old and new as well as delivering an eye-catching visual that communicates both reasons for the gig.

Without exception, everything starts in my sketchbook. Developing an ambigram requires a lot of trial and error which is quicker to get done on paper.
