Unpublished

Initial book cover concepts from my studio. The real, published versions can't be found here: they're in the stores, homes and libraries. Most can be seen on my studio website - www.adarothenberg.com. But I think you will agree with me first concept are often the best.
Dudu Busi: In the Alleyways
Florence Noiville: Bashevis-Singer - A Life
Robert Littell: The Stalin Epigram
Vladimir Nabokov: Despair
Shalom Aleichem: Tevye The Dairyman
Helonida Studart: Sem Dizer Adeus
Dror Burstein: Netanya
Emil Ajar: The Anxiety of King Salomon
Zoe Heller: The Believers
Orian Zakai: Stories
Helen Dunmore: The Betrayal
A novel about the post-Stalin era in the USSR. The approved cover, soon in bookstores in Israel, lost the 45 angle...
Sándor Márai: Az Igazi / Judit
I wanted this quiet but powerful image for this powerful novel from the Hungarian literary master. The approved cover, now in stores in Israel, uses a more obvious image.
Moshe Sakal / Yolanda
A novel by a young Israeli author. This imaginative concept was not accepted - the approved version will be in stores soon, and on my studio website www.adarothenberg.com
Erri De Luca: Le sante dello scandalo (The Saints of Scandal)

These are two of the original sketches for a new book by the great Italian author.
The final version is published in Italy by Giuntina publishing house.

David Foenkinos / Les Souvenirs
A first draft for the Hebrew version of this beautiful poetic novel. Find the published cover (and the book) soon in stores.

Yoram Kaniuk / 1948
Unpublished draft for the Italian edition cover of this book by Yoram Kaniuk. The final version also features digits molded from dirt (on www.giuntina.it and on my website)

Sandor Marai / A gyertyák csonkig égnek (Embers)
A great novel by a great author. This was my first interpretation of it. The published cover for the Hebrew edition, now in bookstores, has kept the deer as a secondary element to a face. But this version is my favorite, a bit spooky as the book is.

Meron Benbenisti / (Dream of the) White Sabra
I am not sure about the name of the final version. I worked only on this very first draft for Benbenisti's autobiographic book.
