VALERIAN & the city of a thousand planets

Valerian. A Luc Besson movie.
Back in 2015, I was lucky enough to be part of the incredible team working on Luc Besson movie "Valerian & the city of a thousand planets". I spent 6 months working as a Graphic Artist within the Art Departement team and I was in charge of graphic design, 3D & 3D printing for several sets & props. I had several tasks and it included taking the initial 2d sketches from concept artists such as Ben Mauro, Marc Simonetti, Charlie Clerc, Patrick Tandiang, Benoît Maillochon, Medhi Boukhezzer... to name just a few... and to translate it into 3D. I had to model lifesize sets & props, accessories or vehicle in 3D for 3D printing. I was also a problem solver for design matters to match the prop makers needs. And finally a graphic designer to create and apply various graphic elements on props and sets... Here are some screenshots from the movie to show a bit of my work...
I hope you will like it as much as I enjoyed working on this movie. Amazing experience amongst an incredible team and surrounded by talented people!

Skyjet clean version.
Initial 2d concept done by Ben Mauro. 3d Modeling done by me in Maya in 1:1 scale & then 3d printed. This version can be seen in many sequences like here in Valerian's spaceship...
Skyjet damaged version.
... or here during the mountain crash sequence. The prop was then used by VFX studios as a starting base & later refined by Lexus team for promotions and events.
Hologram Sleeve/Box.
Initial concept by Marc Simonetti. I built the 3d version of it to help the prop makers to better visualize it...
... and then made the files for 3d print. I also built some of the accessories in 3d to print it...
...as well as some graphic design with the decals/labels...
... I also did the "cop" badge that Valerian is holding. It was 3d printed as well...
... some more views of the hologram sleeve/box.
Trash Corridor.
Same process. Concept done by Charlie Clerc and 3d modeling done by me in 1:1 scale, before 3d printing. The prop makers did the rest and applied some wizardry to have this final look!
Paradise Alley.
I had to make the entire set in 3d and model all the front doors/entrances in 1:1 scale before sending it to the 3d printer. The "Glam Club" was the 1st one I did...
...There are more than 10 different entrances but unfortunately we can only see a little bit of the others and only guess their shapes.
End title credits
it's always fun to see your name at the end... and it was a 1st one for me!

Thank you!
