Brian Frenzel's profile

Roger Federer's Historic Return to the Top of Tennis

Brian Frenzel is the president, chief executive officer, and director for pharmaceutical company Tosk, Inc. and a director of SanBio, a cellular therapy product developer. He also serves as president of early stage life science company investor AdVent Group and as co-chairman of the Band of Angels membership committee.

Beyond his many professional and philanthropic activities, Brian Frenzel is an avid follower of professional tennis. In February, Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer reclaimed the world No. 1 ranking from long time rival Rafael Nadal. In doing so, Federer, at 36, became the oldest player to sit atop the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings. Federer’s return to No. 1 also marked both the longest period between stints at No. 1, dating back to November of 2012, and the longest span between a player’s first and most recent run at the top of the rankings, about 14 years. For some perspective, only seven players ranked in the top 100 of 2018 held comparable rankings when Federer first reached the No. 1 ranking in 2004.

Federer’s latest run as the world’s highest ranked tennis player, which ended in April before a brief return in May, brought his weeks at No. 1 total to 310, 24 more than Pete Sampras. Federer relinquished his No. 1 ranking to Nadal during the clay court season. Federer and Nadal have occupied the top two spots since September of 2017, and between 2005 and 2010 finished every season as the world’s two best players.
