Found Rhythm was an assignment for my publication class: we had to go through a magazine, cut a 3x3 square throughout our chosen magazine, and then create a book based on the rhythms we discovered. I sorted through the many pieces I obtained and kept the images that offered more leeway in terms of an open-ended story that could be made into a cohesive piece. After doing my research and deciding on both the concept and text (which is taken snippets from Slaves’ album “Through Art We Are All Equals”); I began to rip and tear the images into pieces before scanning them in. It took me a few trials before I discovered the best choice of fonts: Rift Soft and Essonnes Headline bold.
The concept behind this piece relates to relationships: the lines represent the fights and the dissonance between the couple while the tape acted as the Band-Aids and glue they attempted to use to repair their relationship. It is a story of a relationship that had was slowly falling apart.
