THROUGH MY EYES
Ana Filipa Alves
This portfolio is about exploring and playing with colors and backgrounds.

My inspiration for the negatives and the colorful filters comes from a classic 1977  horror movie called “Suspiria” created by an Italian film director, Dario Argento.

What inspired me the most in the movie was the unattached bond with reality. Most         scenes are marked by strong colors and lights as well as colorful and monochromatic  compositions.

Some of them go as far as being recorded entirely in either green, blue or red.

I have come to the realization that this ensures a fantasy climate to the movie that
makes the audience enjoy every location to the fullest, therefore, I explored the same color process in photoshop, since I wanted the same result that Dario caused in the observer.

To get the same effect, I added filters, played with color graphics, and changed some landscape photos to negative.

In the portrait photographs I tried to capture the essence of each person as you can see presented bellow.

Before each photo shoot we talk a little bit about our day or week, after I try to make them feel comfortable and relaxed, and, tell them to act naturally.  If they are distracted, I also take advantage of that moment.

Here you can see Camila, in Vigo, Spain.  I took advantage of the orange sunset light behind her and tried to focus on her silhouette.  Later, in photoshop, I darkened the background by increasing the contrast and saturation.

As you can see below, I always try my best to find spots with more natural light
possible because this gives me the chance to use the light and shadows to my advantage.

I use the same method in a lot more circumstances with the other models and        landscapes in different hours of the day and played with the light by adjusting the ISO.
When I photograph with people, I like to give them the "spotlight", so most of the times I choose the “noise free” photos, although, in some environments I chose mixing the background and the foreground without disremembering entirely one of them.
Regarding the choice of locations, I take advantage whenever I travel, some remarkable views in the city where I live, some events, or, at home where regularly people feel more comfort.
