TRASH TO TREASURE
Trash to Treasure
Mural for Blind Walls Gallery

In collaboration with the municipality and the property owners of the many grey walls of Breda, Blind Walls Gallery invites international graphic designers, street artists, typographers and illustrators to update the image of the city. We were asked to paint a 20 x 4 meter wall in the Stallingstraat, in which the attic of a moving company once functioned as the storage room for several Van Gogh paintings. After Van Gogh’s mother moved out of the house, the next inhabitant decided to sell the paintings for only ten cents per piece. After Van Gogh’s death, the status of these paintings transformed from ‘trash to treasure’. The previous owner vainly tried to hunt them down, without any luck. To remind the inhabitants of Breda of this remarkable story, we illustrated this transformation on the wall in front of the paintings’ former depot.
