Counterspace has an emphasis on raw emotion. The script was written to be as realistic as possible, along with acting, direction, and cinematography. The conversation is modeled off of conversations I have had with my sister in real life. Furthermore, the editing of the film took a while. It was both tedious and rewarding to edit their dialogue meticulously to amplify the emotion felt. - Ed

Counterspace Trailer
Ed Graveline
The trailer was a little difficult. With the project's run time being so low, and it being so dialogue heavy, I didn't know what to put in the trailer. I didn't want to give up too much of the story. So, I took a monumental line, presented it in a weird way, and used time on titles that were a direct homage to A Clockwork Orange. The trailer is weird but interesting, just how I hoped. - Ed
BTS Documentary, Abigail Davis, 2019.
The documentary was modeled after a personal rule that I follow when making films: S.M.S., or Stylize, Movement, Story.

For stylize, I used a "Magic Bullet" effect which softens skin tones as well as the lighting to give it a more relaxed feel. I color corrected to more cooler tones, and used a "Denoiser" audio effect to make the voices seem fuller and richer in tone during the interviews. I also chose more sentimental music, seeing as how this was going to be put last group project. Lastly, I didn't put myself in the documentary, because the only thing that I did was the documentary. Everyone else worked other aspects of the project, in a way, it was their story to tell, and I wanted to highlight their creativity, not mine.

For movement, every shot accept a small handful (3-4), moves. I hate stagnate shots as a videographer, so the scenes move in pans, push-ins, slides, and more. I felt that having moving shots would draw the audience in more, and keep their attention longer.

For Story, I wanted it tell the audience a story about what happened behind the scenes. Edward had his film, his story, and I wanted to make something that I could call my own. So, I customized the questions that I asked the interviewees to get a variety of answers that covered what went down behind the camera. I wanted the audience to see a documentary that wasn't redundant and boring.

For my standee, and logo design I wanted to keep the graphics elements consistent and have them correlate with the entire movie overall as well as the theme. I merged the two faces of the main characters of the movie and had that become the logo to our film, representing the budding heads the two siblings and the connections they undoubtedly had.

My standee although simplistic was purposeful to the meaning behind the movie and the simple nature of fidgeting items of coins and coffee used. I also afterwards added a string of lights tot the standee to create a "back-lit" effect to it and another dimension to the standee in all.

For my ending logo I made a stop motion animation of abc children's magnet letters to spell out the ending credits for the movie, I wanted it to contrast against the dark and somewhat sad nature behind the movie and bring the viewers back to what would've been a simpler and softer time for the two pairing and their adventures as children before the move to college and then thereafter to adults in the real world. I wanted this to show through my design choices and be an example of trying my best to think outside the box and do everything I can to make this the best I can.
