Whatever you wanted to know about PRP Hair loss treatment

Of course, you must have heard of vampire facial by now. It is a technique in which one's own blood is injected into the person. The result is pure magic as it leads to glowing skin and youthful complexion which belies your age.

People are opting for it in a big way. But what people don't know is that they can avail a similar treatment for their hair too. It has been around for years and is better known by the name PRP. The PRP is an acronym for platelet-rich plasma. People can opt for many cosmetic measures to get their hair loss treated. The last resort might be Hair Transplant if all other things don't work out.

How does  PRP work?

PRP makes the use of platelets and blood cells in the blood which is useful in triggering the growth of hair. While the blood platelets have been used in many medicines which deal with aging, arthritis etc. they are now being used for treating hair loss. Using these cells can activate the hair follicles to start producing healthy hair. PRP has shown great results in treating hair loss, with results showing growth of thicker and more hair.PRP therapy is catching on fast as a prominent hair loss treatment method.

How is the procedure performed?
PRP involves many steps, the first of which is the withdrawal of blood from the arm of the patient. The blood is centrifuged after extraction. The apparatus of centrifugation spins the blood at a high rate which results in separation of the red blood cells from the plasma. The plasma contains a large number of platelets, thus it is called platelet rich.It is injected into the hair follicles directly through a syringe. Many injections are administered throughout the scalp with one injection per half an inch of the surface area. The whole procedure may take only half an hour.

The risk factors
Although the risks are minimal, the patients might feel discomfort or numbing due to the involvement of injections. People must use ice packs to soothe these problems. Bruising may also be there , but it usually subsides within a week or so. The doctor will suggest some painkillers to alleviate the pain. After the procedure, one should skip the styling mechanisms such as coloring, blow drying etc. for a day. A warm shower will work wonders as the warm water will increase the blood circulation.

Who can benefit from it?

The procedure can be used for anyone who is dealing with hair loss, even though people in the initial stages of hair loss are known to respond best to this treatment. People with androgenic alopecia benefit greatly from it.

How to get the best results?
For the best results, one should be consistent while availing the treatment. The sittings are scheduled once a month in the beginning. After some time, they are scheduled every three to four months. The interval increases to every six months thereafter, depending on the patient's response. If the patient adheres to the instructions well, the results can be seen after two to three months.
